The Far North. Like, Really Far.

     We literally walked into Canada.

Considered leaving the kids there, but didn't want to start an international incident.
Last August we hooked up the Buffalo and drove way north to Lake Francis State Park in Pittsburg, NH. It was just a few miles from the Canadian border and is next to the headwaters of the Connecticut River.

We made a few improvements since our trial run which worked out great. The first was the sleeping arrangements which I talked about in the previous post. Everyone was comfortable and had enough space to stretch out a bit, and no one had to sleep on the floor. The second was the addition of wheel chocks and a stabilizer for the trailer hitch wheel. These added up to a much less shaky setup, so it didn't feel like a minor earthquake every time someone shifted position in the night.

I'm like that guy who wears the band t-shirt to the concert.
I cannot recommend this kitchen setup strongly enough. Game changer.
This setup is kid-approved.
Lake Francis itself is a beautiful spot, and the campground was clean, quiet and spacious. We got in some canoeing, hiking, swimming, and fishing, and the kids even made a few friends.

The wild animals were not so wild.
All in all, another great trip in the books and the last time we used the Buffalo before our big trip. While my backing up skills could still use some work, this trip gave us the confidence that this whole tow-a-camper-across-the-US thing could work. The next few posts I'll touch on the massive amount of prep its taken to plan that trip. But with cozy happy endings like this one awaiting us, I know all the hard work will be worth it.
